Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) has been shown to be effective in reducing tics. It is a highly structured therapy administered once a week by a trained therapist. The standard treatment is eight sessions over ten weeks, but it can be adjusted to meet your needs. CBIT consists of four important components:

  • Teaching you to be more aware of your tics and the urge to tic

  • Making changes to your day to day activities in ways that can be helpful in reducing tics

  • Teaching you to do competing behavior when you feel the urge to tic

  • Learning stress management techniques to reduce anxiety that can increase tics
